freimauern
A virtual exhibition of miniature-videos.
Start: 09.05.2009
"Everyone of us has an answer and in this way we bring with us our story,
our language and our Freedom."
(Roland Barthes)
The art association gokart has made an open invitation to artists and experts
of disciplines close to art to make a miniature-video on the theme "freimauern".
These miniature-videos are presented in the form of a virtual exhibition that
is a phenomenological interpretation of the construction and fall of a wall,
analysed from diverse perspectives: ironical, metaphorical and using social
criticism. Each monthly addition of a new miniature-video will bring with
it a fresh artistic facet.
The abstraction of the wall and its fall leads to an analysis of the comparison
between antinomies and the dualism that follows on from this. If there it
is a wall, we will consequently also find a "here "and "there
", inclusion and exclusion, as well as a possible passage of boundaries.
The passage and overcoming of a limit, of a boundary, presents itself as a
synonym of freedom, standing for the achievement and preservation of the self,
and counting as a basic prerequisite for liberty of thought and spirit.

Christian Niccoli - The hug
Christian Niccoli's work The hug will be presented on SOUVENIRS
FROM EARTH, the first TV Station broadcasting a nonstop program of
high quality Film and Video Art on the European Cable Network. The work will
be shown on a weekly basis starting October 18th, 2009.
The Hug (2003) shows a young couple sitting on a bench in a park.
The scene has been photographed from two perspectives, in order that the observer,
entering the space, catches sight of two different but identical perspectives
of the same subject. Despite the physical closeness and the almost idyllic
setting; although everything is perfect or maybe exactly because of that,
both youngsters reaches unexpectedly for a remote control and switches off
the other.

Para/Site Art Space is honoured to present the exhibition Feigned Innocence:
We All Look. This exhibition is curated by the students of the 08/09 Para/Site
Art Space - Hong Kong Jockey Club Curatorial Training Programme. The exhibition
explores the idea of looking versus being looked at. The give and take between
the watcher and the watched, the loss and gain of control in an interplay
of power and desire. Each of the four curators will present a story in one
of four self-contained rooms that comment on and raise questions about prescribed
ways of visual conduct. They are stories that tread on the very fine lines
between curiosity and spying, between the observer and the voyeur, between
spectating and inspecting, between desiring and lusting.

"Christian Niccoli - Lost in perception"
a new reportage is now online on Castyourart.com
The work of the Italian artist Christian Niccoli traces the social mental
state of the urban beings of our time. The discourse is over a generation
of young adults who have fled their country roots, who have been trained to
fight their way through life alone, who are always ready to do their best,
but who are secretly oppressed by the question of who will take care of them
if something goes wrong.
What is common to them is also what sets them apart. The isolation of those
whose existence is based on flexibility and openness, which even though they
share with others, does not unite them with others, and in the end only puts
them in a position in which they are compared with and played off one another.
In his photography and video work, Christian Niccoli documents, but he does
not make documentaries. He captures inconsistencies and points out structural
determinded tensions in our way of life. In his works, communalities are always
shown as something individual, something that must be realized by actual individuals,
even when they stem from general sociological conditions. The pressure that
results from having to individually work through and deal with structural
changes such as the neo-capitalist deformation of working conditions produces
tension in real life, as well as in his art.
